allemansrätten (right of access to private land)

Allemansrätten is the universal and unique right to roam freely across our Swedish landscape. This right also entails certain responsibilities with regard to showing consideration and respect for animals, nature, landowners and other people in the area.

Allemansrätten means, among other things:
• You are not allowed to cross plots, gardens, plantations or cultivated land, such as fields.

• You are not allowed to drive a car, motorcycle or moped off-road. You are also not allowed to drive on paths, park roads or exercise trails.

• You must not light fires in very dry weather or strong winds. The fire might spread.

• You are not allowed to take or damage trees and bushes.

• You are not allowed to take fruit, berries, vegetables or anything else that is growing in gardens, plantations or fields.

• Do not leave behind or discard any rubbish. Jars, glass, plastic and other rubbish can injure both animals and people.

• You are not allowed to hunt, disturb or injure animals. It is also prohibited to take bird eggs or touch the animals' nests or young.

• You are not allowed to fish in lakes or watercourses without a permit.

• Dogs must be kept on a lead in the reserve during the period 1 March - 20 August, when the animals have young. It is best to always keep your dog on a lead in the reserve.

Allemansrätten is limited in Fegen Nature Reserve. Within the bird conservation area, you will for example not be permitted to land or get within 100 metres of the beach between 1 April and 31 July. During the same period, a speed limit of 5 knots is in force in the area. Overnight stays and the lighting of fires may only take place in certain designated areas within the nature reserve.
