in the event of an accident

If an accident occurs during your visit to Sweden, you should call 112 for assistance. The same number applies for the police, fire brigade and ambulance service. Emergency calls from payphones are free.

Emergency calls 112

If you get sick during your visit to Sweden and the Fegen Inspiration Area, you should find your nearest hospital or healthcare service (casualty ward or healthcare centre). Don't forget to bring your passport and your European health insurance card with you. Otherwise you will be charged the entire treatment cost. You will still have to pay for part of the treatment, even if you have a health insurance card.

Larger hotels and accommodations in Sweden have the number of a local GP who they can call in the event of acute illness. They can also help their guests to find a health centre or hospital.

Tourists from other countries, outside the EU/EES, must pay for any treatment they receive from a hospital or healthcare centre. Make sure you have good health insurance and that you have the necessary paperwork with you before you leave your own country. Tourists from EU/EES countries as well as some other countries like Sweden have the right to the same healthcare as Swedish residents.

Prescription medication is collected from a pharmacy, these can be found in urban areas and towns. Over the counter medication and items such as painkillers, nasal spray and plasters can be purchased in normal supermarkets.
