Sandvik church
The mythical church in Sandvik commands scenic views over Lake Fegen.
Sandvik church
As far back as the Middle Ages the first church stood on this headland. The church has been on fire several times and was once burned down by the Danes in 1644. The present red granite church was built in the 1890s.
According to the legend, a wealthy woman was on her way across Fegen from Sotenäs. When she got into distress, she prayed to God to be saved. If she survived, she would build a church. The boat drifted ashore on the headland and the woman kept her promise. The church in Sandvik went on to have a significant role in the spread of Christianity in the region.
